Bus passes for women born between 6 September and 5 November 1954

To help women who are affected by the transition to an older state pension age, you can apply for a Concessionary Bus Travel for Women bus pass.

virus

Before you travel, please follow the latest travel advice.

A 9.30am time restriction on the use of concessionary bus passes is in place to help with social distancing, even at peak travel times. If you have a County Durham travel pass, you can board in a County Durham bus before 9.30am for a flat fare of 50p.

For new/replacement passes, our travel pass supplier may take a day or two more than our indicated seven to ten days for you to receive your new pass.

What you need to apply

You will need:

  • proof that you live in County Durham, such as a bank statement, utility bill or council tax letter
  • evidence of your date of birth, such as a passport, driving licence or birth certificate
  • a passport type photograph (if you are not applying at a Customer Access Point)

How to apply

By post: Fill in the  Icon for pdf Concessionary Bus Travel for Women bus pass form (PDF, 39.6kb)  and send it to the address on the form.

Online: Scan or take a photo of your form and supporting documents on a smartphone/mobile device. You can then upload the form and documents using our document submission form.

You will receive your pass five to 10 days after application.

What you can use your pass for

Your pass entitles you to:

  • free travel on journeys inside County Durham and journeys crossing to/from a neighbouring area (it does not cover journeys where you get both on and off the bus outside County Durham)
    • after 9.30am, Monday to Friday
    • all day Saturday, Sunday and bank holidays
  • travel for 50p on journeys where you start inside County Durham
    • before 9.30, Monday to Friday

What happens when you reach state pension age

When you become eligible for your state pension, you are entitled to a full older persons bus pass. You do not need to do anything, we will automatically send it to your home. You must let us know if you move home, as otherwise you may not receive your pass.
