Cemeteries

We are responsible for 46 open cemeteries and 98 closed churchyards in County Durham. We aim to provide high standards of maintenance and are constantly working towards improving our cemetery grounds and service.

We have had to make changes to funerals and cremations - we appreciate this is a very important service and are working closely with funeral directors to ensure as little disruption as possible.

The number of attendees allowed at a service is 15, limited to members of the deceased's household, close family or in their absence, a family friend. We will provide web casts free of charge to allow family members to watch services provided that they are ordered with your funeral director 48 hours in advance of the service. A download link will be made available for anyone requesting a web cast, but this may take up to 3 weeks to arrive. See changes to funeral and cremation services for more information.
