Courses for childminders


Book one of our courses for childminders.

Before you become a childminder, you must complete our pre-registration course - see our Become a childminder page for course details.

Book a place online through our Provider Portal for any of the courses listed below. If you are not already registered on the Provider Portal contact us.

All courses are available free of charge to childminders registered in the County Durham area.  Some of these courses are open to Ofsted registered childminders in other areas at a fee.  Please contact us for details.

Level 2 safeguarding systems and processes

Description:  This course will help you develop a shared understanding of the processes, principles, roles and responsibilities outlined in national and local guidance for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children

Female Genital Mutilation (FGM)

Description: This workshop raises awareness of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and will allow practitioners to consider how it may affect the families.  By the end of the course practitioners will be able to identify risks and indicators and know how to address any concerns. Practitioners attending this course must have completed a level 2 safeguarding course within the last three years

Vulnerable under two's

Description:  By the end of the session participants will:

  1. Be aware of the research regarding the vulnerability of two year olds
  2. Understand the roll attachment has in protecting the child and how the nursery can help
  3. Have an awareness of a range of parental risk factors and its cumulative effect on child development 
  4. Resilience in children
  5. Supporting children and families
