Revamped recycling centre opens new trade waste facility
Small businesses can now make use of the improved facilities on offer at a revamped household waste recycling centre.
Offering even more opportunities for residents to recycle, the new and improved site features additional skips taking in a wider variety of materials and a shop where used goods can be sold on.
And this week, a new trade waste area was opened, allowing small businesses to get rid of unwanted items in a responsible way.
A full list of household waste accepted at the site and the shop can be found on the HWRC page.
John Shannon, our strategic waste manager, said: "The feedback we have received since Stainton Grove HWRC reopened has been extremely positive. The centre is much bigger and more customer friendly now, meaning it is much easier for residents to recycle even more materials.
"We are delighted to extend this to the business community with the opening of the trade waste area. I am sure it will prove to be a valuable and much-used facility in Teesdale."
A fee based on the weight of the items deposited will be charged by the operator H.W. Martin for trade waste. Items accepted include:
- Soil and rubble
- Garden waste
- Scrap metal
- Commercial fridges and freezers
- General waste
Stainton Grove HWRC was closed last April to allow us to carry out the improvements.
Unforeseen circumstances, including harder than envisaged ground material and the depth of existing utilities, led to a short delay with the work. However, these problems were overcome, allowing the centre to open before Easter, a time when use of HWRCs increases.
Stainton Grove HWRC will initially operate during winter opening hours, which are 9.30am to 3.30pm seven days a week, but from next week until the end of September it will be open from 9am to 6pm every day.
Details of all HWRCs in County Durham, including opening times, can be found on the HWRC page or by calling 03000 26 0000.
