Adventure guaranteed on World Book Day
Scale new heights and begin your own adventure at your local library this World Book Day.
And events are not just aimed at children - on World Book Day our libraries will also be offering adults the chance to get involved with an adventure themed quiz and the chance to win a pair of tickets to see Sir Chris Bonington at Gala Theatre, Durham.
Sir Chris will be appearing at Gala as part of Durham Adventure Festival on Saturday, 27 April where he will tell the extraordinary and very personal story of a life time journey of discovery, pushing the limits from his discovery of climbing at the age of 16 through to repeating his epic first ascent of the Old Man Hoy to celebrate reaching the age of 80.
Cllr Joy Allen, our Cabinet member for transformation, said: "World Book Day aims to provide every child and young person in the country with a book of their own and to inspire them to love reading.
"Here at Durham County Council we want people of all ages to be able to enjoy the day with us as we believe you're never too old for an adventure."
Quiz sheets will be available from any of our libraries on 7 March. The competition is open to anyone with an adult library membership and all correctly answered entries will be submitted into a prize draw to be in with a chance of winning.
It's free to join the library - ask a member of library staff or do it online here Library Online.
Durham Adventure Festival is presented in partnership with Kendal Mountain Festival and is part of the 2019 Year of Culture campaign.
The inaugural event in 2018 attracted thousands of people to County Durham and boosted the local economy. This year's event is shaping up to be even more exciting with popular elements such as the basecamp and climbing wall set to be bigger and better.
Tickets to see Sir Chris Bonington cost £20 and are available to buy online at Durham Adventure Festival or via the Gala Box Office on 03000 266 600.
