Bridge Card scheme

If you travel on the bus alone but struggle because of your age, a disability or illness, or just lack confidence, carrying a Bridge Card can help.

You can get your card from local bus stations, your local customer access pointlibraries, or by contacting us.

How does a Bridge Card help?

We operate the scheme in partnership with Arriva North East and Go North East. If you show the card to the bus driver or bus station staff they will give you extra help. They can:

  • help you count out money or change
  • check you know where you're going and what stop to get off at
  • tell you when you have arrived at your destination
  • allow you time to sit down before the bus sets off
  • tell you about your journey rather than giving you a written timetable
  • use the bus stop bays to make it easier for you to get on and off the bus safely
  • use special equipment like ramps to help you get on and off
  • help if you get into trouble, like getting on the wrong bus
