Temporary library facility open from next week
A temporary library facility which has been set up while a new, modern library is built will be open to residents from next week.
The current Peterlee Library, on Burnhope Way, will close its doors on Friday, 15 December.
From Monday, 18 December, residents can access the temporary library which has been set up in Peterlee Leisure Centre and includes six computers and a book loan service.
The leisure centre will also be home to the new, state-of-the-art library once it is complete in autumn of next year.
Cllr Joy Allen, our Cabinet member for transformation, said: "Our drop-in consultation sessions earlier this year found that the public were overwhelmingly in favour of keeping a library facility in the town while the new one is completed and local members Cllr Audrey Laing and Cllr Harry Bennett have worked hard to ensure these needs were met.
"A lot of work has been done to create this great space for people which means no-one will lose access to these important facilities."
Activity groups which currently take place at the current library will continue in the leisure centre on the dates and times below:
- Get Creative - Knit and Natter
Mondays weekly starting January 8: 10.00am - 12 noon

Temporary changing rooms will be available from January while the permanent changing rooms are refurbished.
