Chester-le-Street Leisure Centre temporary pool closure
There is an exciting new development happening at Chester-le-Street Leisure Centre. We have secured Sport England funding to develop our pool programme and to improve the leisure centre, which will include a newly refurbished reception area and a changing village.
When will the pool close and re-open?
To allow us to complete these works along with other essential pool maintenance, the pool will be closed to the public and aqualearn from Monday 4 September 2017 and will reopen in the New Year.
Other pools in the area
You can see a list of other swimming pools in the area on the Swimming page.
What if I am an aqualearn customer?
You will already have received a letter from us explaining about the change to lessons. As a valued aqualearn customer we are keen to make sure that we meet your needs during this closure period by offering you the following options:
Continue your aqualearn lessons
If you would like to continue with our aqualearn programme, lessons will be delivered predominantly at Bullion School Swimming pool in Chester-le-Street and with some lessons also occurring at Freeman Quay's Leisure Centre in Durham. We have ensured that 100% of our lessons can be delivered - download Chester-le-Street Leisure Centre. Please note that due to pool availability unfortunately there may be some changes to your current lesson day and /or time.. This timetable information in relation to changes will also be available from
Freeze your aqualearn payments and resume lessons after the closure
If you pay by direct debit, upon your request we will freeze your account for the period of September, October, November and December. Payment and lessons at Chester-le-Street pool will recommence from week beginning Tuesday 2 January, 2018.
If you pay on a quarterly basis and your latest payment covers any period when the pool is closed we will automatically extend the end date of the arrangement to make sure you receive your full quota of lessons for which you have pre-paid. However if your payments are due in September then we will require a full payment of £67.00 to secure your place on the course from January onwards.
