Chester's Best competition

'Chester's Best' is a free environmental competition open to residents and organisations in Chester-le-Street and surrounding villages. The aim is to create and celebrate a more attractive environment in which we can all live, visit or work.

2018 competition

This year's competition is now open for entries.

Applications can be made by filling in the Icon for pdf Chester's Best competition entry form (PDF, 2.2mb) . Alternatively, paper entry forms are also available to collect from the One Point Hub, Burns Green, Chester-le-Street, DH3 3QH.

Closing date for receipt of entries is 31 May 2018

Judging will take place in July.


Winners and awards will be presented at a ceremony in October.


Even if you don't have a garden, you can still enter your plant pots, containers, window boxes or hanging baskets as long as they are viewable from a public highway or footpath.

There are 6 different competition categories to enter:

  • Business frontage/floral display
  • Group project to improve an area
  • Neighbourhood area - (please attach a brief description of community activities and projects with locations, which you wish to be judged on)
  • Residential garden
  • Allotment/kitchen garden
  • School, nursery or young peoples' club garden or group project

2017 Results
