Summer season at Bishop Auckland Town Hall
There's something for everyone this summer at Bishop Auckland Town Hall, including fantastic music, productions from touring theatre companies and award-winning films.
The production is followed by Last Tango in Little Grimley, focusing on an amateur dramatic society trying desperately to increase audiences by putting on a 'sizzling sex comedy', while Last Panto in Little Grimley follows the same incompetent characters tackling the Christmas pantomime with predictable riotous results.
Later in the summer, Art with Heart presents Declaration, an autobiographical comedy drama which explores dealing with ADHD as an adult and challenges preconceptions around mental health on Wednesday, 28 June.
Stand-up also returns to the venue with the popular Hilarity Bites comedy nights. Comedian Alex Boardman - who has written for performers including John Bishop and James Corden - headlines the event on Friday, 19 May and will be joined by 2017 Leicester Mercury New Comedian of the Year George Ridgen.
Music fans also have plenty to look forward to this season, with folk band The Happy Cats, led by former Lindisfarne frontman Marty Craggs, playing on Saturday, 10 June.
Audiences can also hear the songs of rock and roll legends Buddy Holly and Roy Orbison in one performance when Darren Paige and Marc Robinson bring their two-hour show featuring classic hits to the Town Hall on Friday, 7 July.
A host of award-winning films will also be screened across the season, including Manchester By the Sea (Thursday, 25 May), Lion (Thursday, 22 June) and winner of the 2017 best picture Oscar Moonlight, the story of a young black man growing up a rough neighbourhood of Miami (Thursday, 27 July).
Robin Byers, our service manager for place and experience, said: "This summer sees a varied theatre programme, from the comic antics of the Baroque Theatre triple bill to the thought-provoking but equally entertaining Art with Heart.
"For an entertaining evening out, why not try our Hilarity Bites nights or come to watch one of the fantastic award-winning films being screened across the season."
