Spruce Up arrives at Framwellgate Moor
A third County Durham community is benefiting from a 'Spruce Up.'
Spruce Up takes one settlement at a time and combines our activities of highways, street cleaning, regeneration, grounds maintenance and others for a thorough tidy up.
We join forces with schools, businesses and community groups to give town and village centres across the county a 'deep clean.'
The work began at Framwellgate Moor on Monday 23 January and is taking place on Front Street as well as the two shopping areas on Priory Road.
It involves installation of new benches on Finchale Road, the sweeping and clearing of footpaths, the painting and cleaning of street lights and the removal of weeds and debris from paths and green spaces.
Channels are also being cleared, chewing gum removed from footpaths, bollards and fencing painted and gullies cleared.
We are also teaming up with Framwellgate Moor Primary School to deliver assemblies, which seek to educate children on the importance of keeping their communities looking shipshape.
In addition, a poster competition is being held for pupils with the winning entry being displayed around school and locally.
The children are also helping with planting.
Spruce Up will see one location chosen each month, with one town or village centre from each of our 14 Area Action Partnerships to get the treatment before December 2017.
It launched at Spennymoor in November before moving onto Fencehouses last month.
Spruce Up Fencehouses saw three planters, donated by Tanfield Lea based Marmax Recycled Plastic Products Ltd, planted by children from the village's Woodlea Primary School and 1st Bournmoor Scouts.
Oliver Sherratt, our head of direct services, said: "The reaction we've had from both Spennymoor and Fencehouses has been excellent and people are telling us Spruce Up is really making a visible difference.
"We're getting stuck in at Framwellgate Moor and it's great to have local children on board once again.
"We're confident Spruce Up will prove just as popular here."TextArea=Call to action 1;ActionID=11;
