Durham City is a finalist in the 2010 Britain in Bloom competition, representing the north east in the large town/small city category. Judging takes place at the beginning of August and awards will be announced at the end of September.
What is Britain in Bloom?
Each year, over 1,000 communities take part in Britain in Bloom to show their acheivements in horticulture, environmental responsibility and community participation. It is one of the largest environmental campaigns in Europe, working to create a cleaner and greener Britain.
What are we doing in Durham?
In Durham we want to create a cleaner and greener environment for all who live and work here and for those who visit. We launched our campaign for Britain in Bloom this year with the help of the girl guides. Their logo has been used as one of our feature displays to mark the centenary of the girl guides this year.

How you can get involved
Beautiful Durham competition
You can help to enhance the city area by taking part in the Beautiful Durham competition. The competition is open to all groups, organisations, schools and individuals throughout the city of Durham area. Even if you don't have a garden, you may want to invest in plant pots, containers, window boxes or hanging baskets for your home or premises.
