The Countryside Ranger Service manages a number of sites across County Durham that everyone can enjoy. This includes country parks, picnic areas, railway paths, nature reserves and the coast.

What we do
We:
- carry out practical conservation
- make sure our sites are safe and well maintained
- constantly develop sites to meet the needs of users and wildlife
- enhance the biodiversity on our sites
- run environmental education sessions
- promote the countryside through events and guided walks
- work with volunteers and community groups
Further information about our sites, education sessions, events and volunteering can be found on the web pages below or by contacting us.
What we do not do
We do not:
- manage Public Rights of Way - queries should be directed to the Access and Public Rights of Way section. (see link below)
- deal with issues on highway verges - problems should be reported to the Highways Action Line. (see link below)
- deal with issues on land which is not owned by Durham County Council.
Reporting problems
When reporting a problem, it would help if you could give us:
- a description of the issue or problem
- a precise location with, if possible, a six figure grid reference
- a contact name and telephone number
What happens next?
If you contact us for information or to report a problem, we will respond as soon as we possibly can.
