Space Hop - one giant leap into libraries!
Libraries in County Durham are encouraging young readers to take part in the 12th Summer Reading Challenge during the summer holidays. This year’s challenge, Space Hop, has been fuelled by the huge wave of interest in the 40th anniversary lunar landing, which was celebrated in 2009. The challenge is to visit the library three times during the school holidays and borrow at least six books. Children taking part will be given a free wall chart when they sign up for the challenge, and receive stickers for this each time they borrow a book.

The Space Hop website supports children who take up the challenge with imaginative activities and games. It will also give children the chance to read summer-time blogs from their favourite authors and to get online reading advice from library staff.
