Annual General Meeting - May 2010
At our Annual General Meeting held on 19 May 2010, Colin Steel from Sedgefield Borough Homes (statutory partner) was elected Chair, Andrew Thompson (public representative) was elected Vice Chair and Councillor Jan Blakey was elected Vice Chair (Councillors).
First Board meeting
The first meeting of the East Durham Rural Corridor AAP Board took place on 29 July 2009.
The Board looked at action plans to address the priorities developed by local people at May's AAP launch meeting. The three main areas for the AAP to focus on are:

activities for young people
-
community spirit and aspirations/support for the Voluntary and Community Sector
-
sustainable transport and traffic issues
Sub-groups were formed to work on the priorities.
Cllr Maria Plews was elected as chair of the Board.
The Board was given a presentation highlighting the winter gritting routes and highways schemes available. The Board also received a presentation on the City of Culture bid for the county.

East Durham Rural Corridor launch meeting
The launch meeting of the East Durham Rural Corridor Area Action Partnership (AAP) was held on 29 April 2009 at Sedgefield Community College. In total, 84 people attended the launch, and residents' groups, councillors, county council officers, representatives from partner organisations such as the Police and fire service, and voluntary groups were all represented on the night.
The event was opened by Councillor Simon Henig, leader of Durham County Council.
People had the chance to look at a range of information boards giving them details about their area (see the Area Action Partnerships information page for the boards).

Issues on the night
Name
One of the main aims of the meeting was to choose the name for the AAP. In a vote, East Durham Rural Corridor was the final choice.
AAP priorities
Another important aim of the first meeting was to develop priority themes for the AAP to focus on over the coming year.
Many issues were discussed including educational attainment, crime and anti-social behaviour and physical regeneration. From the discussions, attendees developed the following priority themes:
- Activities for young people (54 votes)
- Support for voluntary community sector (29 votes)
- Community spirit and aspirations (27 votes)
- Sustainable transport (26 votes)
- Traffic issues (21 votes)
- Educational attainment (20 votes)
- Environment improvements (20 votes)
- Crime and community safety (16 votes)
- Healthy lifestyles (16 votes)
- Street cleanliness (11 votes)
