First Board meeting
The first meeting of the Weardale AAP Board took place on 23 July.
The Board looked at action plans to address the priorities developed by local people at May's AAP launch meeting. The four main areas for the AAP to focus on over the coming year are:
- support for voluntary sector - focusing on youth
-
employment and job prospects
-
housing - affordable decent homes
-
transport/access to services including highways.
Sub-groups will be formed to work on the priorities.
The Board also chose its new chairperson – Pam Forbes from the public section of the Board.
The Board was given a presentation highlighting the winter gritting routes and highways schemes available, and received a presentation on the City of Culture bid for the county. Below are the minutes and a summary of the meeting:

Launch meeting - Weardale Action Partnership
The launch meeting of the Weardale Action Partnership (AAP) was held on 20 April. In all, 65 people attended the launch. Local councillors, council officers, representatives from local public services, voluntary and resident groups, and members of the public all attended on the night. The event was opened by Cllr Simon Henig, leader of Durham County Council.
People had the chance to look at a range of information boards giving them details on AAPs (see the Area Action Partnerships information page for the boards).

Issues on the night
AAP name
One of the major pieces of business for attendees at the AAP meeting was to choose the name of the partnership. The name chosen was Weardale Action Partnership.
AAP priorities
A major part of the meeting was to develop priorities for the AAP to focus on over the next year. Issues discussed on the night included: tourism, highways, health, transport, crime/community safety, recycling and leisure. At the final vote on priorities, the following areas were chosen as the key issues that the Weardale Action Partnership will start to consider over the next year. The issues in order of priority are:
- Support to voluntary and community organisations (42 votes)
- Transport (24 votes)
- Job prospects (20 votes)
- Affordable decent housing (19 votes)
- Local environment (16 votes)
- Activities for young people (16 votes)
- Access to services (15 votes)
- Highways/traffic management (12 votes)
- Education (8 votes)
- Circulatory diseases (1 vote)
