First Board meeting

The first meeting of the 4 Together partnership took place on 23 July.

The Board looked at action plans to address the priorities developed by local people at May's AAP launch meeting. The three main areas for the AAP to focus on over the coming year are:

  • Environment, street cleaning and open spaces
  • Community spirit and aspirations
  • Activities for young people

Sub-groups will be formed to work on the priorities.

The Board was given a presentation highlighting the winter gritting routes and highways schemes available. The Board also received a presentation on the City of Culture bid for the county. Below is a PDF of the minutes from the Board meeting:

4 Together launch meeting

The launch meeting of the Ferryhill and Chilton Area Action Partnership (AAP) was held on 15 April. In all, 117 people attended the launch, with councillors, people from residents’ groups, community venues and community partnerships, and members of the public all represented on the night.

Secretary of State Hazel Blears MP, and the MP for Sedgefield, Phil Wilson also attended the meeting.

People had the chance to look at a range of information boards giving them details on their area (see the Area Action Partnerships information page for the boards).

People also had the chance to view some of the successes in their area: PDF IconArea Action Partnership launch event boards Ferryhill and Chilton.pdf (1 pages, 327kb)

We also produced an 'area profile' for the partnership to give people more detail on the work going on in the area: PDF IconAAP profile for Ferryhill and Chilton area.pdf (2 pages, 677kb)

Issues on the night

Name

One of the main aims of the meeting was to choose the name for the AAP. In a vote on the night, ‘4 Together’ came out as the final choice. This reflected the fact that the AAP represents the four main settlements of Ferryhill, Chilton, Cornforth and Bishop Middleham.

AAP priorities

Another important aim of the first meeting was to develop priority themes for the AAP to focus on over the coming year.

There were many issues discussed on the night including community safety, housing regeneration, supporting the elderly and rising unemployment levels in the area.

From the discussions, attendees developed the following priority themes:

  1. Environment, street cleaning and open spaces (56 votes)
  2. Public transport (40 votes)
  3. Community spirit and aspirations (34 votes)
  4. Activities for children and young people (34 votes)
  5. Health and lifestyle choices (28 votes)
  6. Housing regeneration (23 votes)
  7. Community safety (17 votes)
  8. Education and training (16 votes)
  9. Unemployment levels (15 votes)
  10. Supporting the elderly (15 votes)

A positive start

One participant on the night said: “I thoroughly enjoyed the event. We were straight down to business, deciding the partnership's name and the issues which needed to be tackled in our first year. That was probably the easy bit.

“The next few months will be the telling point and we need to see action as well as being kept up to date on progress, however all in all, a very positive start.”
