The Cathedral Bus services (40 and 40A) are operated using fully accessible low floor minibuses and are funded in part by the Durham City Road User Charge.

In summary:
Journeys from the Coach Park to the Cathedral now operate daily at:
10 and 45 minutes past each hour between 1010 and 1545 with an additional Monday to Friday journey at 0810.
Return times from the Cathedral to the Coach Park are:
03 and 30 minutes past each hour between 1003 and 1603.
Journeys from the Rail Station to the Cathedral now operate daily at:
10, 30 and 50 minutes past each hour between 0950 and 1710 with additional Monday to Friday journeys at 0800, 0830, 0900, 0930 and additional Saturday and Sunday journeys at 0910 and 0930.
Return times from the Cathedral to the Rail Station are:
00, 20 and 40 minutes past each hour between 0940 and 1720 with additional Monday to Friday journeys at 0815, 0845, 0915 and an additional Saturday and Sunday journey at 0920.
All journeys on the bus cost 50p and tickets are valid all day. Senior citizens travel free and children under 14 years at half fare. Explorer North East tickets are also valid.
The service operates to a Sunday timetable on all public holidays except 1 January, 25 December and 26 December when no service will operate. Between Christmas Day and New Year's Day a Saturday timetable will apply. No service will operate on the Saturday of the Durham Miners' Gala and special timetable will operate on the weekends of the Summer and Christmas Festivals.
Cathedral Bus is operated by Veolia under contract to Durham County Council.
