Detailed advice and information is available in County Durham to help with sensory loss. A wide range of equipment to try and buy can also be found in our Specialist Equipment Centres and Home Independence Shops.
Specialist equipment centres
During 2005 we opened two specialist shops; a low-vision centre and a hearing loss centre. They provide a comprehensive range of equipment. Well trained staff will be on hand to give appropriate advice and information. Prices of the equipment on sale are competitive.
Details can be obtained from Social Care Direct or from our Home Independece Shops.
The Home Independence Service also has a resource centre in partnership with County Durham Society for the Blind and Partially Sighted which can provide further help.
Home Independence Shops
There are five Home Independence Shops situated around the County which are staffed by occupational therapy assistants. They all have a comprehensive range of useful equipment to make daily living easier. Prices are very competitive.
A small range of equipment is available for purchase or demonstration which is specifically for people with sensory loss.
